Whether it is the summer before a new academic quarter or your first job, staying productive is to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and a proactive mindset. Though it might be tempting to just sit on the couch and binge watch the whole Game of Thrones series (Spoiler: everyone dies). It is extremely important to fill your day with plans and activities.
But don’t be afraid, here are 5 ways you can have a more productive summer!
1) “A book is a dream that you hold in your hand.” –Neil Gaiman
Sometimes, reading is overlooked because of our low attention spans in the age of rapid technological innovations. The use of technology and our generation’s easy access to answers for simple questions limits our attention and often times puts our curiosity at bay. But part of being productive is to stay educated!
Since it’s summer time, you should take advantage of the nice weather! Grab a cold lemonade and start reading books that you are interested in! Take 8 general topics that interest you and aim to read 3 books that target each specific topic every week. For example, Week 1: Astronomy, Week 2: Marketing, etc
2) “You can’t put a limit on anything. The more you dream, the farther you get.” -Michael Phelps
Instead of eating another pint of ice cream, go out there and get started with a sport that you want to master. Set up a practice schedule and make an effort to stick with that plan! You’d be surprised at how much better you can get with just 8 weeks! It is not only beneficial to your mental health but also beneficial to your physical health!

Tuesday, Thursday: Swim from 12-1:30 (Cardio )

Ever get tired of setting 10 alarms but waking up to none? Part of being productive is to have a routine, “The early bird gets the worm.” Most successful entrepreneurs wake up early to get their day started with some ‘me’ time. Technology like smartphones and computers mess up the biological clock significantly, resulting in a poor sleep quality and thus an unproductive day.
Try not to use your phone 45 minutes before and after you sleep. Taking a break from the online world once or twice a day is important for self-growth/reflection.
4) “Recast your current problems into proactive goals.” –Suze Orman
Apply for an internship for the school year. The best way to get started with your career is to apply and be proactive with what you are passionate about. You can utilize all the resources that ProSky offers! Try signing up for courses or challenges to pick up a useful skill!
Apply early so you can be stress-free for the rest of the summer break! It is always better to just apply then to not apply just because you think you are under qualified.

Good friends and families are always the best way to discuss ideas and reinforce your ambitions. Since they will provide you with emotional support and good advice. It is also a good way to stay productive because part of staying productive is to learn new ideas and explore new knowledge. A good old coffee date might lead to some new nuggets of wisdom!
Make an effort to get to know individuals on a personal level. Optimally, meet up with two different friends once a week. Share ambitions, discuss important issues, talk careers, anything!
Aside from these five things that I mentioned above, remember to have fun and to enjoy the weather!
